As the Kyle Hyland Foundation for Teen Support (KHF) continues to grow and expand, the community has stepped up and helped with four recent fundraisers. KHF was founded in 2015 after Kyle Hyland took his life at the age of 16. As a legacy for Kyle, the mission of the Foundation is to establish and maintain a teen center in Benicia where teens can be provided support through social interaction, music, art, and counseling.
KHF is fulfilling its mission through the Benicia Teen Center, located at 1135 Church Street, just one block away from Benicia High School. The Center provides a drop-in location for teens and offers services such as teen forums, support groups, cooking classes, art projects, workshops, and much more.
As the cost of running and operating the Teen Center is significant, the need for increased funding has become apparent, and the community has risen to the occasion. The Teen Center was able to move into the current location with the help of a grant from the Human Services Board (HSB), a branch of the City of Benicia. KHF recently re-applied for another 2-year grant with HSB and confirmation is pending. Valero Benicia Refinery, a vital community supporter, has begun a strong partnership with KHF. Valero designated proceeds from the 7th Annual Valero Sporting Clay Invitational to both KHF and Benicia CAC. The Big Truck Roundup, another non-profit group, held a family-fun event on June 1st and designated the proceeds to the Foundation and to Benicia Moms Club. Finally, KHF recently had a fundraiser of their own and hosted a 70’s party fundraiser with auction items from local businesses and community members. The Foundation is now planning for the 4th Annual KHF Charity Golf Tournament which will be held on September 14 at Napa Golf Course. This support and funding from the community will help the Kyle Hyland Foundation provide even more services and programs to the teens of Benicia for many years to come.
