Teen Center hours: 3:00-5:30PM (Mon-Thu) and 1:00-5:30PM (Friday)
A mentoring program offered on a semi-monthly to monthly basis where subjects pertaining to social emotional learning have been explored, and mentoring has been provided. Videos pertaining to the theme of the forum are often presented followed by group discussion and exercises led by adult mentors. Some of the topics we discuss are depression, anxiety, and anger management. During 2020 and early 2021, when the teen center was closed, we held the teen forums virtually on a weekly basis and offered a less structured format to allow the teens to re-connect and support and be supported by staff.
KHF also offers educational workshops several times throughout the year. These workshops specifically focus on issues pertaining to teens. We partner with community members, local therapists as well as Solano County Mental Health, Benicia Unified School District, Solano Pride and Solano National Alliance on Mental Illness to offer various workshops on topics such as human trafficking, bullying and PTSD, substance abuse including drugs and vaping, career and budget planning, suicide prevention awareness, life/coping skills, sexual safety, and LGBTQ+ issues. In the future, we also hope to offer Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention training.
The mission of the Kyle Hyland Foundation for Teen Support is to provide charitable and educational support to teens by offering mental health programs and other services, and to maintain a center where teens can be provided emotional support through mentoring, counseling music, and art.
